Blog Who is Haru? Who is Haru? By komicer, 24 Jul 2020 Who is Haru? By komicer, 24 Jul 2020 Haru is a anime character whom you saw featured on various original artworks by CDS. It won’t be remissed if you thought that she is designed to be our mascot. Surprisingly, the answer is no and still no. I like to call Haru our not-mascot. That is because for a team that comprises of different artists, it is difficult for a mascot to truly represents everyone. That said, Haru is definitely a CDS character and a go-to character whenever we need some artwork done! There is, in fact, an origin story to how Haru came about and how we kinda adopted her as our go-to character for general purposes. The secret origins The Doujin Market – Doujima character was designed by our own Geisterstudden. We shall name her 'Haru'. Or Spring since…Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 Haru’s anime character design was created by Geisterstunden all the way back in 2014 as the mascot for Doujima back when it was held in the small room in *scape. It was simpler times back then. We were helping Neo Tokyo Project in organizing the event and as part of our contribution, we designed the character. We're conducting workshops at Doujin Market – Doujima, and you're invited! So if you're an aspiring doujin artist, a…Posted by Doujin Market – Doujima on Saturday, March 15, 2014 I can’t EXACTLY remember if she was supposed to be a bro-con but she had a little brother who only made a single appearance ever. To commemorate Fall Doujima, we'd like to present Akira, Haru's cool and collected brother. While Haru creates works…Posted by Doujin Market – Doujima on Thursday, August 14, 2014 Dream Idol mode Moving along, we were having a meeting at Ramen Champion regarding potential April Fools special. The idea of teasing a horribly bad visual novel came about and we decided to go with it. In preparation for our SOON TO COME 10k fans, we are preparing something special for everyone. Till we are ready to…Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Friday, March 14, 2014 Perhaps for a lack of immediate inspiration (or is THAT the inspiration?!), we picked Haru to front the entire quasi-project. She became the starting block to our project and it went surprisingly well! Watamori became Haru’s family name for the dumbest reason of creating an elaborate joke. This may or may not end up becoming canon. If we ever get around to deciding that. Introducing Watamori HaruI personally quite like this version of the character PV which we included voices. So there it is in its original glory. Many thanks to pickle131 for helping us so much with the voices! It has been fun plotting the lead-up to the troll video.Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Saturday, April 5, 2014 With all these assets, we continued to reuse her for other marketing materials we had to create such as this image to publicize a workshop we are to conduct. We will be having a 2D waifu drawing workshop conducted by Space Penguin this Friday, 2pm at Funan Anime Matsuri. Followed by a live drawing demonstration by Haimerejzero at 5pm! Come draw some waifus!Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 Doujima Round 2 Doujin Market – Doujima 2015Doujima is starting soon! All hail the the blue ribbon goddess!Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Saturday, April 25, 2015 We're super excited because Doujima's just this weekend and we hope you are too! See you at SCAPE The Treetop, Level 5! :3Posted by Doujin Market – Doujima on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 The second year of Doujima, Geisterstunden did the design and illustration once again. This particular iteration of Haru was made into a standee and till today, she still stands in our studio. Pencil Kings and final Doujima Later on, we closed a deal with Pencil Kings to create a short anime workshop. As part of the workshop, Space Penguin drew Haru in a stereotypical mahou shojo costume as an example. That artwork went on to be Haru’s ‘face’ for the Doujima of that year. It was quite cool to see Haru on the big screen. However, that will also be the last time that our version of Haru will represent Doujima. Thanks for coming to Doujin Market 2016 and for making our event an epic success! We will be taking a few days off to…Posted by Doujin Market – Doujima on Monday, May 9, 2016 A sneak peak of our beloved mascot's big screen debut. 😉 It sure is great seeing our show grow every year!Posted by Doujin Market – Doujima on Friday, May 6, 2016 Sometime after that edition of Doujima, Neo Tokyo Project went on to design new mascots with other artists. Still named ‘Haru’ and you can still see some semblance of her origins with us though! As for OUR Watamori Haru, her ‘fate’ is no longer tied to Doujima. For a while, we didn’t really have a plan for her and arguably, we still don’t have a plan for the character. Haru makes her mark From CDS to all of you, be you religious or not, single or attached, have an amazing Christmas! Haru artwork by FantaisieNocturne Productions' Desti. Since she's working with us for the month of Dec.Posted by Collateral Damage Studios on Saturday, December 24, 2016 Haru is now a character that appears in our original artworks as and when we need a character to stand in. Desti is probably the artist who made the strongest stamp on Haru’s overall look since she handled most of our branding artworks, from Christmas greeting e-cards to poster artworks. 21st Apr will see the launch of Artblovk Gallery's first exhibition, featuring our very own Space Penguin. For now, she has been a blank canvas for us whenever we need an unspecified character within an artwork. Perhaps it is time for us to firm up her position within CDS. Dare I say… let’s put a personality behind Watamori Haru and give her a mic? Make her an anime artist and let’s go from there?
