After some slacking around, i finally took the time to write this. Here be the Records of the CDS Doujin efforts in the final frontier of the Singapore and Malaysian market of 2008!
(Extreme lack of pics post. ANYONE with pics of our booths can send to us? =X)(yeah they totally forgot to bring a camera orz- EO)
Your eyes. they burn, dont they, by master artist Xeph =D
EOY, or End of Year event was held on 13th December at Expo. CDS was early and set up booth around 10-ish but we spotted loads and loads of cosplayers hanging outside already. We had some of our works on display on the Artist Panel and of couse we took a look around the other booths.
Kidchan was our neighbour booth holder along with Toonikun. A little stressful, when our booth was beside someone with 2million hits on her DA…
Tragic_comedy and i were invited on stage for a artist panel and we shared our experiences along with KC, Murasaki and other invited panelists. It was kinda fun yet a little boring as everyone was sitting in a Graveyard Aura hall and didn’t speak much.
The preorders were collected by batches and there were only 2 uncollected by the end of the day, which is quite satisfactory. =)
EOY was a pleasant but not entirely awesome experience. True there were much Cosplay, but the lack of MOE GOOD COSPLAY was what made it boring for me (WHERE THE HECK ARE TEH REST OF TEH LITTLE BUSTERS?! (except ume duh))
Comic Fiesta, or Comifest was held on the week following that. After the long journey to Sunway Pyramid on the day before the event, Xeph, Jon (attached member) and i met up with Surface (doujin group) member Kaede and leader PCManiac and stayed over Kaede’s place (mind you, we did slave for them for a moment, carrying their spanking new artbook orz). Heck of a great place.
On the first day, the event was opened early at 9am, Xeph and I prepared some exclusive prints for sale then due to lack of stock of our new products D=. Amazingly, Ranka Lee’s prints sold out within 5 mins of event opening and the rest soon after. By roughly 1pm, we were swept till we’re left with only one print!
There were loads of cosplay but the traffic across the booths was huge. Surface were selling their artbook and i met up with Kamcao leader Saku as well as Kaizeru, Neko and Kenneth. I met up with other Singaporean groups as well such as Iruka_Fishy (who organised the bus ride, thanks loads!), Manda and loads of other great artists. Great peeps, had loads of fun.
AFA organisor Mechbear visited our booth loads too (he finished looking around real fast) as well as the NUS anime club who came over for a short tour. Met people from Teamblue as well, i think they were Shin_Asuka and Kona.
The Figurine Mall had a great long display of figures there as well, along with DannyChoo cosplayer, great Odin Sphere cosplay (omfg the rack) and loads of booths to look around. Had quite a good load more exposure to the Malaysian market again.
Day 2 was pretty fun as well. Xeph and I prepared another set of prints for sale today (2 different batches) and by lunch they were gone again! Our doujinshi BURNING ARISA ZA MOVIE 1st, remainding INTEL RECON and Superscenic were on sale as well. Day 2 had a rare Hayate Yagami cosplay too (I gave her the Nanoha and Fate name cards just cos she cosplayed her)! Good stuff
Overall, sales was pretty alright, enabling us to recover the cost of going to the event itself. Had a great time hanging out with the Surface and Kamcao members and exchanged several management views as well as technical skills. It was very enjoyable and we stuffed ourselves full, both with food and enjoyment.
Of couse the bus trips were boring and tiring (duh).
And finally, a new years shoutout for the organisors of SOY, STCC, Cosfest, AFA08, EOY08 and CF08:
GREAT YEAR! THANKS FOR THE EVENTS!
And to great demand, a final closure courtesy of Xeph once more~
MY EYEEEEEEEEESS!!
Well, it was nice to meet you during EOY.. I wish I went for CF08 but due to money issue.. =_=;;
WHAT HAPPENED TO RANKA?!? UNSEE!!
Why did you forget to bring a camera?! WHY
I am convinced that this is the REAL Ranka the Zentreadis saw when they threw down their weapons in shock, awe, fear and utter disgust.
Thanks Xeph for showing everyone the truth of what really happened in Macross
MY EYES…. BURN IT WITH FIRE….!
