In a twisted way, Cosfest is like QB. They make promises and to a certain extent, they deliver. But there is also something about it that we just don’t really like. A catch. Perhaps like needing to print A2 artworks on black mounting board for their publicity with no assurance that it won’t be abused for their personal profits.
This Cosfest, CDS went all out and we present to you a whole slew of artworks to feast your eyes on. So read on as we unveil the announced and the unannounced products that we have come up with this time.
There has been much confusion when some new event called Comicsworld was announced. What’s this Comicsworld? Why is it so close to Sgcomifest? Will there be cosplay? Why is there a clash in dates with Cosfest?
As it turned out, Comicsworld and Cosfest are one and the same. They will both take place on 25th and 26th June at Downtown East, side by side to each other. The organizers have taken great pains to assure artists and booth owners that it is not a deliberate attempt to shove us aside and well, we are giving them the chance to prove themselves. It might actually be a nice fresh start to a good working relationship again.

No post on Cosfest is ever complete without this image
For any historians of the local animanga community, artists/booth owners have traditionally enjoy a love-hate relationship with the Cosfest organizers. They are slow, unresponsive, arrogant and whatnot. But despite all those complaints, we still find ourselves having a booth at Cosfest. Maybe we are all just suckers for pain. We will all sit back at our booths, smile at passing customers, gaze a little longer at the prettier cosplayers and grimace at the poor sound system. It is a familiar experience that we have come to both hate and love.
With Comicsworld held in another tent totally, we would be away from the hated sound system but nothing can stop cosplayers from entering the tent still. The only regret would be not seeing that awesome GAR-tsby cosplayer performing on stage again. That guy is always fun to watch.
This year’s Cosfest would also feature a whole range of new products from us. We have been preparing with this event in mind. Knowing what other artists/artist groups will turn up, I suggest that everyone bring plenty of cash and come for both days. It will be an immense visual feast of art and cosplay for all who turn up!
It’s the Madoka invasion as CDS brings you two vastly different products based on epic, Evangelion-istic mahou shoujo anime, Madoka Magica. First off will be the already announced cloth poster by Xeph.
Your wall needs this. It will help cover up all those paint cracks the other posters left behind.
If you had pre-ordered, it will be $30. If not, it will be $38. Either ways, you get Madoka-megami-sama gracing your wall along with her comrades supporting her. No other posters will beat the sheer epic size of this.
From the largest, we now move to the smallest. Specially produced for Cosfest, Haimerejzero has made Madoka straps for anyone who desire a Mahou Shoujo hanging from their phone. You can now bring one of the five (or all of them!) along with you wherever you go. These Madoka straps will be sold in blind packets to anyone at $6 each. Buy them fast as there are limited stocks. There are five designs in total and you will never know who you are forming a contract with.

Five pretty girls. Who will you form a contract with?
If you are feeling rather greedy or unwilling to take a gamble, you can just buy the entire set for $35. It’s more expensive but you get to eliminate the element of chance. But really, take a gamble. You might end up with something special. Don’t worry if you get two Mamis. You can always try to break the head off one of them.
Of course, amidst the Mad(oka)ness, comes something that a lot of people should be looking out for. After half a year in the making, Starry Night is finally completed.

It’s like having a new baby.
With almost the entire CDS team working on it and three guest artists contributing to it, this is the definitive example of a CDS work that takes and combines the best talents of everyone. As you read the doujin and appreciate the illustrations, feel the weight of everyone’s efforts and all those sleepless nights that went into it.We intend to make it the best doujin we’ve ever done and we hope that you would enjoy what we did. You can read more about some interesting facts to Starry Night on our note on Facebook.
Starry Night is a Touhou x BRS doujin. Or to be more precise, a Touhou vs BRS doujin. When the touhou and BRS worlds clash, the inhabitants will not be meeting with hugs and kisses. Expect plenty of flare and action as both sides battle it out for friendship and something more!

Last seen: EOY 2010. Now back with vengeance.
The book will normally cost $30 but as a form of apology for our lateness, we are selling all the available books at Cosfest at only $28. If the books are sold out before you get your hands on it, you can also reserve a copy that will be distributed on a later date at a centralized location. Like how we did the preorders during AFA X and EOY last year, each reservation comes with a deposit of $10. You will received a card that proves your reservation and you will have to show the card when collecting the book.
For those of you who had already pre-ordered, you will get even more discounts. By the time of this announcement’s upload, you should have received either a call or an sms from us to remind you to collect your book during Cosfest. Hope to see all of you at Cosfest and I sincerely apologize for the wait we put you through.
Not forgetting our fairer sex, the Black Label team have also come up with some new artworks for you! Do you like Tiger and Bunny?

Fear the power of rampant commercialization and logo placement!
Lovingly drawn and designed by Setsuri, each set comes with an A4 poster of your favorite dude along with a cute bookmark. $8 is a small price to pay for such a combination of cute and manliness.
Starry Night is the first all-CDS collaborative work but it might just lay the grounds for more collaborations between the main team and the Black Labels. Xeph and Semi-shigure teams up to create a two-poster set for Ao no Exorcist. In Xeph’s words, “Never thought that i would be hook onto something so BL-ish...” If the Black Label team gets their way, one day Xeph might join them instead and produce works so fantastic that it will drive fanboys nuts for BL. THAT is a dangerous thought.

Luckily, despite the BL nature, there is still the obligatory girl in there
Retailing for $20 per set, you get two A3 posters with an artwork by Xeph and an artwork by Semi-shigure. There is something for both sides of the camp in one awesome package.
Don’t forget our Pokemon straps! Last seen at the Haru Bazaar, we will be bringing them out again to sell at Cosfest. They will cost $4 each and $15 if you buy all four designs as a set.

I realized that few people choose the grass starter. But Smugleaf is just so smug!
Valentine’s day might be four months overdue but it’s never too late to receive chocolates from Reimu. JUN will be printing his popular valentine Reimu to be sold at Cosfest. Each Valentine’s Reimu will be $12 but if you buy (or reserve) a copy of Starry Night as well, a $2 discount will be given for the poster.

There must be a catch in there somewhere.
That is just a general lowdown of what you can expect from us over at Booth 26. There might just be a surprise entrance or two of other works too! Looking beyond our booths, don’t forget all the other doujin groups that will be turning up. And of course, since this is Cosfest, there will be cosplay.
Talking about cosplay, don’t forget the usual rule of cosplayers cosplaying our works getting on-the-spot discounts from us! If you are a Dead Master cosplayer and you buy a copy of Starry Night, as long as you are willing to take a photo with it, more often than naught, you will get an automatic discount from us. I learn from the big companies in Tiger and Bunny. ◕ ‿‿ ◕
See ya at Cosfest! (or is it supposed to be Comicsworld?)

And then there is always bacon after that.
After half a year of writing, drawing, redrawing and RE-redrawing, Starry Night is finally completed and ready to go on sale! Read on if you never knew about this project or you want to update yourself with what’s going on! (more…)
It started as an inconspicuous email. The requirements looked easy on (digital) paper but we probably got more than what we bargained for. Not that it was a poor experience. It was incredibly stressful, tense and wrist-numbing. But at the end of it all, we got a good insight into how the advertising industry work and yes, it was fun. As much as there were moments when we felt like giving up or making a run for it, there were moments that were fun and rewarding. Throw in the satisfying feeling of triumph when the day ended and we survived the challenge, and it all made for a great experience for all of us involved.

Facebook. Love it or hate it, you can’t escape from it. Some of the CDS artists such as Xeph, GreenTeaNeko or IdleErrant (previously Manzart) have embraced Facebook. Others, such as Semi-Shigure had insisted on keeping out of that damn privacy-invading website. And you have lurkers such as WaHa who will visit the CDS Facebook but still refuse to ‘like’ it.
Ever since I, Komicer, figured out social media, CDS has been quite active among all the various platforms. Other than Google+; that one still confounds me. However, out of all, Facebook is where we are most active and where we share tons of the things that we are doing while NOT preparing for Cosfest X.2.
Recently, our Facebook hit a new milestone. Within a span of 2-3 years, we have finally hit 1000 fans. It’s not much compared to AFA or even others such as Ani-Culture or Radiantdreamer. But hey, it’s a nice milestone for all of us and calls for some celebration (and freebies)! (more…)
What time will u guys be opening shop tomorrow?
Cosfest officially opens at 1200. So probably just slightly earlier than that?
Touhou cosplayers should get a discount buying Starry Night too~
Yes, they do. More specifically, for Starry Night, the cosplayers that will get the discounts will be those cosplaying as Sakuya/Remilia/BRS/Dead Master. aka the four main characters.
lol I knew I should have gone as a Sakuya trap. XD
